Is this real? Are we living in the future?
I read an article that talked about how “one person” created a children’s book using AI Generated Art. And I was really amazed and scared at the same time.
I am amazed by the fact that this technology exists and that the artwork it produces is mind-blowing! I am also scared because it’s new, overwhelming, and a little bit intimidating.
But I am still curious so I gave it a try and this is how it went 😉
ChatGPT
I wanted to go through the same process as stated in the article so I went to chatGPT and asked for a story.
But first… what is chatGPT? It stands for Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer. It is a chatbot developed by OpenAI. It is built on top of OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 family of large language models, and is fine-tuned with both supervised and reinforcement learning techniques.

Here is the story that the bot created for me… and I llloooove it! ❤️😆 Reading that story triggered my creativity. I am not a writer so it will be hard for me to create something like this. But the AI can help generate a baseline for a story and I can revise it however I like.
But, then again, this made me more curious and so I dug deeper and tested chatGPT. To my surprise, it had more features than creating a short story.
It can write you a song 🎵

It can also help you learn more about a product that you are using — like your own little support 😄 💻

And it can also write code! (including best practices 😮 )

I also listened to a podcast that used chatGPT as their therapist!
Now, that is just simply amazing. I’m speechless! Using this bot is surreal because I never realized that the technology we have today is on this level. It is quite surprising how advanced it is.
What’s even more surprising is that this bot is on its Beta version and it’s collecting data. I wonder what will happen once it become GA.
AI Art Generator
Moving on to my next research… Midjourney.
Midjourney, according to their website, is an independent research lab exploring new mediums of thought and expanding the imaginative powers of the human species. The people involve in this project are just as impressive as the artwork that it is generating.
I gave it a try and generated a few of them:

What more can I say? 😆 Out of all the different applications that I tried, I liked Midjourney the most. It generates amazing results! The more information that you give, the better the results are.
I also saw a forum where they used chatGPT to generate Midjourney prompts. Use a prompt to create a prompt #promptception

Putting into action
Let’s look at the facts…
- I am an artist and an engineer. Probably not relevant but definitely a fact.
- I’m amazed by these technologies.
- I am intimidated and a little afraid.
- These technologies are created for a reason. Most of the time, the reason is to provide a solution to help individuals have an easier way of doing things.
So instead of me being afraid of it. I will use these technologies to my advantage!
What did I do? Well…. I created my own music album! 😆 🎶
Creating my own Music Album
It has been a dream of mine to have my own music album ever since I bought my first BSB casette tape😜

It took me this many years to just even try it. Why now? Well, because I can! I have the tools to create an album. And it is much easier to do it now than before.
So how did I do it? First, I needed a goal.
My goal is to create 3 songs: A happy one, a Tagalog song and a sad song. I don’t know how to write a song so I went to chatGPT and asked for a bunch of lyrics that I could use as a reference

I actually thought it would be easy but it wasn’t! I have a melody inside my head and the words just doesn’t fit. I just ended up writing my own songs and used chatGPT’s words as a reference. What do I mean by that?
The bot’s generated songs helped me realize the direction that I want for the songs. It gave me a bunch of results that I hated so I was able to pinpoint the things that I liked. I used the bot to ask for synonymous words or to rephrase the sentence that I have. It acted as my thesaurus and dictionary.
Once I’m done with the melody and lyrics, I downloaded Bandlab and added the music and recorded my song.
What is bandlab, you ask? BandLab is a social music platform that enables creators to make music and share the creative process with musicians and fans.
Basically, it is a free software that works as an online DAW. This software is really dope! They have a big collection of sounds that you can use for free! You can play different virtual instruments, add sample loops or you can record your own sound. They also have effects that are pretty decent. I really like this app!
The best feature that they have, in my opinion, is their mobile app! 😆 And that’s what I used 😄 Wanna hear a sample of my recording?

It took me weeks to finish all 3 songs. It was hard BUT worth it!!
Last stop is Midjourney.
I asked the Midjourney bot to generate me a pop album cover in black and white. It gave me different variations and in the end, this is the one that I liked. 😄

Conclusion
That was really fun! Researching those different technologies helped me realize where we are today. We have great innovations at the palm of our hands and I’m glad that they are free to use.
Of course, I know that there could be negative impacts and controversies surrounding these technologies but as for me I choose to look at the brightside. I believe that the future is promising. And I am eagerly waiting to see what’s next. How about you?
